On Campus

All campus entities, including student groups, must use a licensed vendor to produce any merchandise with the Boise State name and/or logo. This applies whether the items are intended for the department/organizations own use (e.g. team shirts); promotional pieces, or items to be sold for fundraising.

Why do I have to order logoed products from a licensed vendor?

All licensed vendors have gone through an approval process ensuring:

  • High quality
  • Correctly branded
  • Artwork approval
  • Product liability insurance
  • Ethical production (Items not made in sweatshops)

Licensed vendors are held to the highest standards. In the rare instance that an order with a licensed vendor has been misprinted, is poor quality, etc., the order can be made right or the licensee may risk consequences such as losing their license.

To ease the ordering and logo approval process, a Department Merchandise Guide is available for download. During the order and purchasing process, please feel free to contact licensing@boisestate.edu with any questions.

Departments must comply with university purchasing rules where necessary. Student organizations will also need to comply with the applicable Student Affairs rules governing purchases.  If a licensed vendor is not used, the University may not approve funding for the order.

If the merchandise is to be resold, e.g. for fundraising, all sales must be channeled through or approved by the University Bookstore, the exclusive retailer on campus.

What about paper print pieces?

For printed items such as stationery, signs, banners and displays, there are different guidelines:

  • Stationery: All University stationery must be ordered through University Printing and Graphics and must follow the prescribed brand standards
  • Flyers, leaflets and other printed marketing materials: We strongly encourage departments to use University Printing and Graphics for printed materials. This keeps money within the university.  In addition, Printing and Graphics knows the University brand standards, which will save you time and, if applicable, design money.  If you wish to use alternate vendor, we recommend that you get a number of bids to ensure you get the best price. If you use a non-licensed print vendor  you are responsible for ensuring that the design meets with the Boise State brand standards.
  • Signs, banners and displays: We strongly encourage departments to use University Sign Shop for printed materials, including displays and pull up banners. This keeps money within the university.  If you wish to use alternate vendor, we recommend that you get a number of bids to ensure you get the best price. Please remember that Sign Shop and a CLC licensed vendor knows the University brand standards and will therefore not require a number of art proofs.  In addition, should there be any delay, complication or other issue with your order, which is unlikely with CLC licensees, the Trademark Licensing Office can assist you in getting immediate remediation from a licensee.  This is not possible with a third party vendor with whom there is no relationship with the university.  If you use a non-licensed print vendor (which is permitted if the printing is not for stationery), you are responsible for ensuring that the design meets with the Boise State brand standards.

Please remember applicable university and state purchasing rules also.  If the order is over $2,000 please see the Purchasing policy at this link. If the order is $10,000 or greater a formal RFP will be required.  Please work with the University Purchasing Department for such orders.
